Fast Ways To Burn 100 Calories

By Shannon Clark

Had a little too much to eat? The most important part of maintaining your weight is balancing the calories coming in with the calories going out. So in all actuality, if you consume a hundred calories too many you can simply perform some type of physical activity to burn off that number of calories and things should stay stable. Keep in mind you can over do this principle and exercise should not start to be used on a regular basis as a way to make-up for your over eating, but once in a while it can prove to be useful.

That said, here are a few ideas of what you could do in order to burn off 100 calories.

5. Clean House

Everyone's favourite. Next time its time to get the chores done, think about how you'll actually be burning calories while you do it. Once it's finished you could even treat yourself to one of the treats listed here. Not only will housecleaning improve your physical shape more than sitting on the couch watching TV, you'll also have a clean house to boot! Usually you can torch 100 calories in about 20-25 minutes of vigorous cleaning.

6. Jump In The Lake

If you're spending the day at the beach and had one too many fancy beverages, work off some of those calories by going for a swim. At about 8 calories per minute, it doesn't take long to burn a significant amount of calories. Just make sure the fancy beverages you are burning off are alcohol free or else you could be in for some trouble.

7. Have A Game Of Touch Football

Nothing gets the adrenaline flowing like some one-on-one contact. Take it outside for a quick game of touch football. 15 minutes would be all you need to blast off 100 calories, not to mention strengthen your lower body and core muscles.

8. Relax With Some Yoga

After a hard day at work try and relax with some yoga rather than another sedentary activity. It will help ease stress, improve flexibility and keep you out of the cupboard. A 30 minute session will be what you need to burn off about 100 calories.

1. Run a mile.

There's nothing like a quick jog to get the blood pumping through your body and keep you alert. You'll burn about 100 calories per mile you run so next time you've been sitting just a little too long, lace up the running shoes and take a few trips around your block.

2. Do a full body circuit a few times through.

You can burn off 100 calories by performing about 15-20 minutes of circuit training plus increase your strength at the same time. Remember to try and keep moving between sets and go from one exercise to another. It's best if you can alternate upper body movements with lower body movements so one can rest while the other is working.

3. Go for a 20 minute bike ride.

Take in some of the scenery around where you live by going for a short bike ride. It seems the days when adults used to bike to work are long gone so try and bring this back. If you live within a reasonable distance from work, bike to work rather than drive. You'll also be amazed at what you'll save on gas over time.

4. Jump Rope for 10 minutes

Jumping rope is one of the most intense physical activities you can do. Not only is a great way to increase your cardiovascular endurance, it's also a good way to increase upper and lower body strength as well. Start off trying to skip for a minute straight, then march in place for an equal amount of time. Repeat this process for 10 minutes and then slowly work on decreasing the marching time and increasing the skipping time.

10. Go Golfing

Golfing is an excellent way to enjoy the summer, catch up with old friends and burn calories at the same time. Twenty minutes out on the greens (assuming you are walking) will burn about 100 calories. Considering how long it takes you to play a full round, an afternoon of golfing will earn you a very hearty dinner.

9. Mow The Lawn

Whether it's summer or winter where you live, mowing the lawn and shovelling the driveway are two very good ways to burn a high number of calories. You'll burn about 100 calories in 20 minutes of mowing the lawn and 100 calories in 15 minutes of shovelling the driveway (assuming a hand mower, not a drive mower!)

I love this--what great simple ideas that are easy to do. Thanks for a great Hub. Just don't tell my wife about the Mow the Lawn idea.

Biking is an excellent suggestion. just slap on the helmet and go. Actually, doing a steady 20 km/h will burn 10 calories per minute for an average guy (165 lbs).

i'm 12 too and I really want to lose weight this is really good but I need more I have no bike, it is winter, I'm too young for a gym regristration *grr* and I hate golfing what should I do? I barely have enough time in the day being in 7th grade in an extremely challenging (fun yet challenging) private school I'm sometimes up until midnight doing homework any other 100 calorie tricks? I'm planning to combine a few and burn about 500.

Nice tips. I am also making up for extra calories by running more. Anyways, it is extremely important to keep a healthy diet over time.

um 12 and 13 year old shouldnt try to go to a gym and work out or do stuff like that. its not healthy for you and you could seriously injur yourself. i would not recommend for a 12 year old to start doing stuff like this (unless its golf or swimming or biking for fun)

how do you know if you are riding your bike at 10 mph?

I've noticed a lot of younger kids on this page. If you're 12 or 13 years old, please talk to your parents or a doctor before trying to lose weight. You'll want to make sure you're doing it in a healthy way and that you do in fact need to lose weight. Good luck and be safe!

- If you'd like an honest suggestion of what you should do, get off of this page. I'm no expert, but 5'9 & 100 pounds is just unhealthy. Either you genuinely have issues or you just want attention; regardless, you're 13. You shouldn't be concerned with these things.

@Kelly -if she was that small I'd think her parents would monitor what sites she visited or she'd be in an institute getting some help lol

I need tips on how to gain will power to eat healthier, any ideas?

wow there are alot of children on this page and yes 16 year olds still count as children. Your all way to young to worry about weight and dieting. Do you want to know what you can do to stay HEALTHY? Eat a decent amount during the day your bodies are still growing and they need the nutrients, drink plenty of water, get decent sleep and if you feel the need to excersise do something fun! Swim, Ride bike, skateboard, etc. If you kids are still concerned talk to your parents, doctor, or other trusted adult. You don't have to say you feel overweight or anything so dramatic, just bring up your concerns and ask that they be explored.

I'm 16 too and I've honestly worried about my weight forever. If I've learned anything from doing this it is that having fun and laughing burns more calories than anything:)
