Four Simple Ways To Stop Impulse Eating
70Have you ever had one of those times where before you really even know what you're doing, you're putting food in your mouth?
We've all been there. Whether this has been induced by stress, happiness, the company of others, or a TV in front of us, impulse eating is a bad habit to get into.
Potentially the biggest reason why this is so disastrous is that it makes it incredibly hard to track how many calories you are taking in for the day, which is necessarily in order to see good results from your fat loss program.
Furthermore, since it is impulse eating, chances are, you aren't exactly making healthy choices either.
Here are four simple ways to get a grasp on your impulse eating habits and promote better weight loss results.
Drink A Glass Of Water
The minute you catch yourself reaching for food, drink one full glass of water first.
Sometimes what the body really needs is more hydration - which is what is causing us to want food instead.
Drinking this water can sometimes take away the ‘taste' of the food craving in your mouth, and reduce the chances you choose to eat.
If nothing else, it will help hydrate you - something most of us need anyway.
Pop A Stick Of Gum
Similarly, if you find you're reaching for something to eat, immediately put a stick of gum in your mouth instead.
It's pretty hard to eat something when you're already chewing.
Plus, gum is virtually calorie free and if you choose peppermint, that in itself has been shown to reduce hunger levels.
Take Some Deep Breaths
Another trick that many people find helpful is to simply stop and take in a good five to ten deep breaths before continuing to eat.
This is more something to do to alter your attitude that anything.
When we're sitting up straight and tall, we typically just feel all around better about ourselves, which may just give you that extra push you need to be more aware of your eating.
The more confident you are, the more likely you will feel in better control of your actions.
You'd be surprised what this simple tip can do.
Keep Chopped Veggies Around
If you are going to eat, you might as well make it something that is very low calorie and healthy to boot.
Often the cause of munchies is just boredom and the fact that you want something to crunch on.
Raw vegetables fit this bill perfectly, so make an effort t constantly have some cut up in your fridge - or buy some that have been pre-cut to take the work out of it for you.
So, next time you catch yourself doing a little too much mindless snacking, be sure you keep these in mind.
Trying different methods and seeing what works for you is going to be your best bet. Once you can undercover though what is the cause behind the mindless eating, you will be one step further in fixing the heart of the problem.
