Getting Six Pack Abs - How Often Do You Really Need To Train?

By Shannon Clark

One goal that a number of people strive to reach on a regular basis is getting six pack abs. This is a goal that you certainly can accomplish if you go about it in the right manner, but the problem is many indviduals misunderstand the best way to go about their training, hence they fail.

One of the most popular points of confusion is how often they should train for getting six pack abs.  Here is what you need to know about six pack ab training frequency.

Abdominal Recovery Rates

The first thing you should factor in is recovery rates.  Since the ab muscles are composed of the same type of tissue as all the other muscles in the body, they are essentially going to act similar in nature after being stimulated with weight.

If you aren't allowing them enough time to recover properly, you're going to find that they don't make progress and rather than growing stronger, your six pack abs will get weaker.

The "Endurance Muscle Myth"

Next, the 'endurance muscle myth' should also be cleared up.  This is the myth that many people believe that really misleads them.  They believe that since the abs are working all day long when you're just sitting or standing, this must mean that they can be worked on a daily basis.

Again, this is incorrect.  What you must remember is that even though the abs will be tensed at all times, they are not responding to specific tension like they are during an ab workout.  For this reason, you're better off taking that day in between without ab work to let them recover.

The Benefit Of High Frequency Training

Finally, ask yourself what the real benefit of training abs every day is for getting six pack abs.

If you want your abs to show clearly, what you need is a low body fat percentage and abdominal exercises have very little impact on your overall body fat percentage.  Therefore, your best bet is to perform cardio and heavy weight lifting exercises instead.

That is what will get you the results you're looking for.

So be sure you're keeping these points in mind as you go about your training for getting six pack abs.
